Twilight Imperium

Once a month, I join a group of Bucknell students on campus for a game of Twilight Imperium, an epic strategy board game about diplomacy, negotiation, exploration, and interstellar conflict. A single game can last for many hours, with players building civilizations, forming alliances, making deals, and competing for political and military influence across the galaxy.

What makes these monthly games especially enjoyable is that they create a very different setting for student–faculty interaction. Around the game table, conversations become more informal, collaboration and friendly rivalry develop naturally, and students and faculty get to know one another beyond the classroom. Long strategy games also provide plenty of opportunities for humor, debate, negotiation, and shared stories that carry over from one game to the next.

We have even added our own tradition: a traveling Twilight Imperium trophy. The trophy is not really traveling but every champion’s name is added to it — immortalizing their victory on Bucknell Campus to see for future students.

It has become a small but meaningful monthly tradition that combines strategy, community, and just the right amount of intergalactic competition.

If you are interested in joining us, we are always happy to welcome new players — no prior Twilight Imperium experience required!
